My potential research questions are:

How does electronic music relate to spiritual, ritualistic, or pagan practices?

I plan to do a sensory ethnography of VMO, a band that blends black metal, visual art, and EDM and contextualizes it culturally in pagan ritual practices. I can potentially look into studies around electronic music’s relationship to ritual as well as the use of sound and light in pagan rituals (as VMO uses both to great effect). On top of this, I believe it would be valuable to look at essays that deconstruct the philosophy around black metal to further understand the cultural commentary created by its synthesis with techno at the hands of VMO.
